All about KVPY

Young Scientist Incentive Plan, or Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), is a scholarship program supported by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India with the goal of enticing undergraduates to pursue research careers in the basic sciences. Selected students were eligible for scholarships and contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D. level. It was started in 1999 and was run by the Indian Institute of Science.

In addition to being eligible for admission to institutions like the IISc and the IISER based on additional criteria, students who passed the KVPY Exam were also eligible for fellowships. Three streams made up this exam: SA for Class 11, SX for Class 12, and SB (First year BSc). From 2012–2013, the SP Basic Sciences stream (Classes 11, 12, and First-Year BSc, BTech) and SP Medicine stream (First-Year MBBS) were withdrawn, it was notified on KVPY's website on July 18, 2022.

DST made the decision to combine KVPY and INSPIRE. Beginning in 2022, the KVPY aptitude test will no longer be administered. As per DST norms, current KVPY fellows will continue to receive their fellowships.
